I began my study of the Alexander Technique
when I was suffering from chronic, seemingly untreatable neck pain. My ability to do simple tasks, like driving or picking
something up off the floor was declining, and it was unclear how long I could continue to function in a normal work environment. When I first visited my Alexander Technique instructor, he could see that my habits of movement were the cause of my constant neck pain, though they felt natural enough to me. After a half dozen lessons, I began to experience improved overall muscular coordination, resulting in less neck tension and pain. Today I am more active
than ever before, regularly swimming, running, cycling, and studying vocal expression. More importantly, the movements of
everyday life are a pleasure and source of refreshment. I completed a 3-year training at The Alexander Educational Center,
in Berkeley, CA, which has an excellent training course, where I studied with many world renown teachers. [http://www.alexandertechnique.org/]
This program, which consists of over 1,600 hours, is certified by the American Society for the Alexander Technique (AmSAT),
which maintains the highest standards worldwide for Alexander Technique
teachers. I am a co-founder the Well-Balanced Center, an alternative health center, located in downtown Lafayette.
